Where
is Ilford and how do I get there? Ilford
is approximately 7 miles North East of the City of
London and 4 miles from the Docklands/Canary Wharf
and at the heart of the motorway system. It is easily
accessible from the A406 (North Circular Road), A12
and M11.
It
is 15 minutes by rail from London Liverpool Street
station. 30 minutes by tube from Central London to
Gants Hill tube Station on the central line (from
Gants Hill 5 minutes bus ride to Ilford)

A
little about Ilford and Redbridge Redbridge
with a population of 234,100 people, 93,000 households
is home to historic buildings, attractive parks, diverse
industry and busy Town Centres. It has a vibrant multi-
cultural communities. Ilford, in Redbridge is now
a recognised major shopping centre (Precinct and Exchange
Mall of 80 shops) for North East London, with ample
parking facilities and excellent public transport
links. A major leisure complex incorporating a multiplex
cinema add to the attractions of Ilford, which also
include the popular Kenneth More Theatre. Ilford Town
Centre also has ample office accommodation suitable
for the widest range of financial and commercial services.
Why
the Festival? It is part of the Redbridge
strategy to celebrate and promote cultural activities
in the borough while the Malaysian partners are desirous
to increase awareness of the UK public of Malaysian
Food and Culture. This event will also contribute
to local economic activities by promoting local businesses
and help to market the borough as a vibrant, exciting
and culturally diverse area.
Who
are involved? The event is jointly organized
by The London Borough of Redbridge, OMEC (Malaysian
Business Forum) and Ilford Town Centre Management
in partnership with Tourism Malaysia, iEverything
Ltd., Malaysia Airlines and the Malaysian External
Trade (MATRADE). This event is fully supported by
the Malaysian High Commission to the UK.
What
are the attractions? The main attractions
of the festival are exotic Malaysian food, cultural
performances, art and crafts and exhibition of products
and services. There will be varieties of Malaysian
food including its famous satay as well as Malaysian
exotic fruits.
The
cultural performances will include the different ethnic
dances, martial arts demonstration and other performances
which showcase the interesting aspects of the Malaysian
way of life and traditions.
To
add to the excitement, the visitors can participate
in games, competitions and raffles to win attractive
prizes, including free flights to Malaysia.
Who
are the Participants The participants will
be from the Malaysian communities and businesses as
well as the communities and businesses from the borough.
This include restaurants and food caterers, the travel
trade, the hospitality sector, the educational sector,
local community groups, voluntary sectors and organizations
who wish to promote their products and services.
What
are Malaysian Food and Culture A kaleidoscope
of people and cultures, Malaysia embodies the essence
of Asia, thus the tagline

Malaysian cuisine is exotic with an exciting range
of flavours and culinary styles offering the uninitiated
an endless gastronomic adventure. It comprises three
main groups - Malay, Chinese and Indian with each
having its own distinct style of cooking. The most
famous is the Malaysian satay, pieces of exotically
marinated
meat
skewered on sticks and chargrilled, eaten with condiments
and delicious peanut sauce.
How
many visitors are expected to come? We are
expecting around 50,000 visitors in the town centre.
